A beautifully illustrated advertising diary, given to clients of the  Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon works  has survived since it was issued in 1901.

Entries in the diary confirm it was owned by a British soldier serving in the Boer War.

In poor condition, with pages loose and the spine detached, it needed some attention.

The broken threading that connects folded sections of pages to the spine was repaired and the

pages fixed to the spine with Cascamite powdered glue.

The faded cover was refinished with a black ink and the year regilded.
