Wednesday the 28th another dry day so time to crack on.

New gasket paper arrived so made some correct thickness gasket for the scammel carburettor.

A quick look at the water valve pipe with my 24" adjustable spanner proved futile as the nuts started rounding as they have been under ground in soil for many decades, Will need to investigate large nut splitters or get the 7" disc cutter out when no visitors are around.

Had a look at the Morris cab where Greg has repaired the bottom of the drivers door but again forgot a photo.

Greg has cleaned and dried the carriage end connector tarpaulin so we could remove old repairs and see about some new ones

Greg had other business to attend to so I cracked on with the old lathe preservation

It is a question of removing a section at a time and either a light sandblast of machined areas and a clean of painted areas. So the 3 end gears got removed first along with the top engagement mechanisum

After cleaning treating with lanolin and refitting

The chuck assy came of easily and got the same treatment

However the front slide gear shaft was solid it took heat, then still hard impacts had no signs of movement it took some 24" stilsons and a lot of force to get the shaft to rotate a fraction.

it took another hour of de rusting with abrasive paper, oil and files with much application of the heat along with a  hammer and punch to get the large cog to move but finally it was off and the shaft was out so into the blast cabinet.

Reassembly was remarkably easy after the battle to strip it.
Now all together and treated with lanolin, so before and after together.

Wednesday the 21st another hot sunny day so crack on time.

mother nature has made more mess so another sweeping and weeding session.

Greg found 4 bags of nail in a skip so today was make small bags of the various types to selll in the trust shop.

about 1/3rd of the total.

This was followed by a quick panel realignment on the Honeybourne signal box.

We have been donated part of the track from the long closed Cheltenham Cleeve Hill electric tram way, this is yet another future task to get clean. It is a different profile to the railway.

It was time for petrol in the Scammel and moving the water valve we had acquired as the grass needs cutting

we then decided to try and strip the water valve which is from a water storage tank for the  and use it as a display the bolts and nuts are probably well over 100 years old so the induction heater and 36" stilsons came out and 4 nuts were removed until the induction tools thermal cut out kicked in

Next week I will take the 36" adjustable spanner over.

The onsite fabrication team are making a new cab mounting crossmember from sheet steel for the Morris as they have the sheet cutter and folding machine..

An ultra rare vehicle arrived in the car park so a few photos just for interest

Wednesday the 14th catch up time as both of us have been way indeed Greg is still away so lone working on a hot sunny morning whilst the others were busy digitising and uploading material onto the web site.

Taylor office needed a sweeping out as the seeds had accumulated from the nearby trees.

Then off refitting the float bowl to the scammel carburettor but although I got a couple of coughs it would not run as the battery was near dead as somebody had knocked the solar charger terminals off the battery so now recoupled and panel on the roof for maximum charge time.

on the way back the arched metal support frame was removed from the carriage corridor canvas as it needed straightening and de rusting.

some manipulation in the blacksmiths vice got it straight.

time to de rust and paint  so sort out power tools only to find we have no electricity so seek knowledgeable people about the location of the circuit breakers.

once located and access gained they were reset but to no avail the test function is inoperative so guessing no supply to them.

so time for the battery operated grinder with wire wheel to strip rust and paint it was then treated and primed.

The day was cut short because of the lack of electricity and all the dust and rust sticking to the sun cream on exposed parts of the body..

The sub structure to the floor in the Morris, has suffered in its 63 year life, chasing the rot has meant removing most of the floor.

Drilling out the spot welds was quite fun, but finding where they were under the rust was a challenge as these photos show.

The next job will be to rebuild a sub frame to support the floor, from scratch.

A Thursday report for a change the 25th April a dry start then the rain set in. Taylor office has been suffering from rot for a while but a...
