A Friday the 4th job not a Wednesday this week but a dry day.
Time to press on with the water valve the top remains stubbornly together even after the heat and rust removal but the screw is easy to turn and smooth so stripping has stopped.
After an extensive clean with the wire wheels in the drill the body was ready for painting, removing the hand wheel for cleaning proved impossible as there is a brass taper key hammered into a blind slot so unable to punch it out.
the tapered gate valve has been heated and shot blasted and the lacquered.
The finished gate valve
after completing the top casting the gate was fitted onto the sliding block and refitted onto the screw
A trip to the scrap bins found a piece of heavy angle iron larger than 2" x 2" and about 1/4" thick this was de rusted then drilled in stages 2mm, 6.5mm and finally 20mm to bolt to the base section as a stand.
top section dropped inThe body was then wrapped to protest it whilst the handle was de rusted using a selection of wire wheels in a drill it was then primed.
unfortunately the tin of canary yellow paint comes out a lot lighter and a bright yellow rather than the deep yellow on the tin.
All it needs now is some decent yellow like the original paint and another foot making then it can be positioned and bolted to a surface so it cannot fall over or move as it weighs around 150 lbs then visitors will be able open and close it.
