Wed 8th March spring is here and so is a NE wind and snow so best work inside today.
I dropped into the coach museum now Mike and Wayne have finished the goods yard and freight display, now looking smart and informative..
The honeybourne signal box museum has had some cleaning done pre season opening of the railway but the goods yard table was buried and a mess in the rear of the building.
The table was cleared, cleaned and some displays repositioned after cleaning them off, drawers were emptied and cleaned as the mice had been living in them.
They now contain books, paper work, games and things of interest.
After a good clean the display now looks inviting not intimidating and dirty now the wildlife has moved out hopefully it will stay cleaner.
I popped into the pay office to see how Jane was progressing on setting up new displays with the help of Mike and Wayne it is looking better and coming along..
I found old tools in the pay office and more in the toy museum so as it was rough outside I had a cleaning and preserving session in the workshop.
There is a tap set from the USA now de-rusted and lanolin applied the box needed bras screws in the hinges.
Another thread cutter but with no handles.
Failure of the hold on button in the on position meant a slight diversion to strip and repair the drill
after drill repair the brass wheel was used to de-rust a pruning tool, horse shoe nail cutter, a double sided saw and a 72 inch draughtsman rule and the steel parts of a rawplug hammer.
the rule part cleaned
a suction and blow pump for sinks
Rawplug hammer
All cleaned and treated
The 72" rule has been hung in Boxford the rest will follow.
We need to remove and re rivet the brake shoes on the Morris as rust has lifted the linings off the shoes so one rivet out for measuring to order 100 new ones.
Greg has the shot blasted and painted the brake backplate and it looks good
Also found an interesting piece of paper in the signal box to Staff Sgt Harwood 14/7/1919
this has been handed over to the clerical side of the trust to research.
